Travel Protection Rescues a Veteran After a Paragliding Accident in Mexico

Linda Ranweiler and her husband and dog

You’re in Mexico, enjoying a tropical vacation. You and your spouse decide go on a paragliding adventure, but tragedy strikes. Your spouse has a serious accident and is hospitalized with multiple broken bones. You’re far from home, and you don’t speak the language fluently. What do you do?

This is exactly what happened to Linda Ranweiler and her husband, who have been WeSalute Members for many years. While on vacation, he was in a paragliding accident and broke his pelvis, femur, and heel.

Thankfully, they were able to use their WeSalute Travel Protection Plan to navigate the Mexican medical system and get home safely and at no personal cost. They called Veterans Advantage immediately and were transported back to the United States for free.

“They [Veterans Advantage] were incredible. They talked to me and the doctors daily, set up conference calls between Mexico and United States surgeons and sent a Lear Jet to MedEvac us from Toluca hospital to a hospital in Santa Fe, New Mexico. That alone was would have cost us $25,000. Their coordination of it all saved me the hassle in a very stressful time. We are so, so thankful!” Linda said of their experience.

Even before the accident, Linda and her husband were thankful for their WeSalute Exclusive Discounts. After the accident, they had even more reasons to recommend Veterans Advantage to their friends!

We use the discounts all the time,” Linda said. “but after that accident, a friend of ours, who is also a Vet, joined up just so he could be protected by the traveler's insurance.”

Veterans Advantage is proud that our $50,000 MedEvac Insurance Benefit, one of many benefits included for only $39.98 per year with Travel Protection, has helped so many Veterans and their families! On November 7, WeSalute held its fifth streaming of the “Heroes Meet Heroes” event, where military heroes meet Olympic heroes. Moderated by WeSalute co-founder and Chairman Scott Higgins, the annual conversation was started 12 years ago by WeSalute CEO Lin Higgins. It celebrates both the military and sports successes and similarities across two panel discussions. This year’s session was dedicated to Captain Paul “Bud” Bucha, a Medal of Honor recipient and longtime member of the WeSalute Advisory Board who passed away this year at the age of 80.
