Scott's View: We Will Never Forget - Memorial Day 2024

Scott Higgins

Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer, and a long weekend to unwind, enjoy the outdoors, and be with friends and family. Most importantly, however, it is the most solemn day on our nation’s calendar

Since our country’s beginning, over 1.1 million Americans made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation, to protect our country and our freedoms. We will never forget them. And, on a personal note, I will never forget my brother-in-law, Captain Dan Sanders, a Special Forces Officer who served with distinction in Vietnam, and later married my sister Kiki. Together, they raised two remarkable children, a son and daughter. Later, Dan died of complications due to exposure to Agent Orange and, like so many of our fallen heroes, left a hole in his family.

At 3 pm your local time on Memorial Day Monday, pause for one minute, alone or with friends, to honor those who died in service to our country. This National Moment of Remembrance recognizes and honors our fallen.

On behalf of myself, Lin, and the team at WeSalute, we offer our most heartfelt gratitude for your service. The only difference between those we lost and those of us who proudly call ourselves veterans is we are the fortunate ones. It is our obligation to never forget our brothers and sisters in service, the fallen who are no longer with us.

So, set the alarm on your smartphone and you don’t forget - you will join millions of Americans in our National Moment of Remembrance and you will be glad you did.
